There are many considerations when it comes to graphic design. Here are some of the general basic principles that cover all types of graphic design.

FONT

It is important to get the font size right. There are potential negatives if text is either too small or too large. If it is too small it poses an obvious problem; people can’t see it as well and may not notice it. Having it as large as possible is not necessarily a good thing either though, as it can detract from everything else, meaning the full message is not received by the audience. Text is vital. The majority of the time it is how you will get your message across so it does need to stand out.

The UK Data Protection Act For the Visual Artist

Your obligations under the Data Protection Act

The amount of information about customers that you hold will vary between individuals, but at the very least, to comply with your Income Tax record keeping obligations, you should retain copies of all your sales invoices. These will probably record the customer’s name and address (and possibly email address and telephone number).

The Data Protection Act requires that any data you hold must be:

* processed for specific purposes,

* relevant and not excessive,

* accurate and up to date,

* not kept for longer than is necessary, and

* kept secure.

Secrets of Graphic Design in Everyday Life

Graphic design is one of those every day phrases that everyone knows. ‘Oh you’re a graphic designer, that’s nice’ is often heard but do we really know what graphic design is?

Graphic design is a means of conveying information to someone else in a certain way. You could tell people the information, if you’re around, and if they can hear and understand you. But if you are conveying the information visually, then that is called graphic design.

Art and technology are harmoniously combined to create visual images and text to portray the ideas of one person to another. These can even be communicated in a way that appeals to certain people, or gives a certain impression whilst portraying it.
